Ready for the river journey.

Warao.
Al encuentro de esta maravillosa etnia. "Gente de Canoa" ( Wa=canoa, arao=gente).
Saliendo el 1 de Mayo, para adentrarme en esta cultura ancestral y compartir de manera empática sus conocimientos.

Algo como el viento.

En tiempos de tecnología, que no significa desarrollo humano y humanista, cuesta imaginar algunos hechos básicos de tiempos pasados y que, afortunadamente, sobreviven en el presente.

La wajibaka, curiara Warao, ha surcado los ríos y caños por siglos, tal vez, milenios.

Luego de nacer de un tronco de árbol y de las manos del artesano -constructor (Moyotu), la curiara transporta personas, alimentos, lleva a cazadores y recolectores a sus faenas de una forma silenciosa y absolutamente amigable con el ecosistema.

El silencio de estos espacios es atesorado por el Warao.

Su habitar silencioso, su transitar en las curiaras, un  ir sublime a través de caños y ríos, los convierte en seres que se parecen al viento.

Después de morir y casi en la misma forma en la que viven, el Warao se transforms en Hebu (hebu, "algo como el viento").

Se dice que: “un viaje de 1000 millas comienza con un paso”.

Más allá de lo bonito de la cita, el experimentarlo genera todo un proceso interno en  quien lo vive. Si, cada paso, cada gestión, cada llamada no respondida, cada correo rechazado, cada persona que colabora y responde positivamente, van moldeando todo nuestro marco de expectativas y van, de forma general, haciéndonos pisar tierra sin perder la capacidad de soñar en que es posible.

Ya faltan pocos días para mi salida. Créanme que estoy ansioso, pero a la vez calmado.  Y deseo agradecer primeramente a todos aquellos que han colaborado conmigo: Old Town Canoe & Kayaks, Luke Labree, Numisfila, Mare C.A., Gran D Jerky y otros que desinteresadamente han tenido una palabra de aliento (Mis hermanas y sobrino, Eva Mendes, Alicia Blanco, Ingrid Terán, Manuel Mendes, Mike Civor, Daniel Mosser, Aramis Mateo).

Por otro lado,  todo este fenómeno climático hará, estoy seguro, que me exija al máximo. Los ríos están bajos, ya lo he repetido algunas veces, y debo estar muy atento para escoger el “camino” más adecuado.

Sé que algunos que me leen no estarán del todo de acuerdo con lo que a continuación voy a escribir: la biodiversidad de esta zona es abrumadoramente importante. Pero la espiritualidad  de estas geografías es algo que poderosamente actúa en quienes se contactan con ésta. Ir de la manera más respetuosa posible es, para mí, algo fundamental. Respeto a lo que se ve y a lo que no siendo visible es perceptible.

Ir “con la taza de té vacía”, para que ésta sea llenada con lo que toda esta experiencia seguramente aportará.

Al final de esta empresa, algo habrá cambiado y, sin embargo, todo seguirá siendo igual. Pero por más que veamos que todo sigue igual, en realidad todo está cambiando ante nuestros ojos. El cambio es inexorable, el padre tiempo es el constante escultor y creador, nada se mantiene estático, nada.

It is said that “a jorney of 1000 miles begins with one step”

Beyond the beauty of the appointment, the experience will generate an internal procces in whoever live it. Yes every step, every run, every unanswered call, every  e mail rejected, every person respond positively, are shaping our whole framework of expectation and are, in general, making us down to earth without losing the capacity to dream that it is possible.

Only few days for my departure. Believe me I am anxious, yet in calm. And I wan to to thank first of all those who have worked with me: Old Town Canoe & Kayaks, Luke Labree, Numisfila, Mare C.A., Grand D Jerky and others who have selflessly had a Word of encouragement (, My sisters and my nephew, Eva Mendes, Ingrid Terán, Manuel Mendes, Mike Civor, Daniel Mosser, Aramis Mateo).

On the other hand all this weather phenomenon will, I am sure, requiring me the best. The rivers are very low, and I have repeated several times, and I must be very careful in order to choose the right “way”.

I know some who read me will not be entirely agree with this: the biodiversity of this area is overwhelmingly important. But the spirituality of these geographies is something that powerfully acts in whom contact with it. Go in the most respectful way as posible is, for me, something fundamental. Respect what is seen and also what is not being visible but  is perceptible.

Go “with empty tea cup”, so that it is filled with what surely bring all this experience.

At the end of this journey, something has changed and yet everything will remain the same. But as we see that everything remains the same, actually everything is changing before our eyes,  Father time is the constant sculptor and creator, nothing stands still, nothing.

Siempre es bueno escuchar. El escuchar te permite aprender y es, básicamente, un requisito que abre al conocimiento.

Este viaje está lleno de imponderables. Primeramente, se ha reportado que esta sequía es la más fuerte desde 1969, por lo tanto tendré la oportunidad de vivir esta experiencia directamente (¿Cómo se ven afectados los ecosistemas?, ¿como reacciona la fauna y la flora ante tan prolongado y fuerte evento?).

Por otro lado, tal vez el curso sea algo complejo: los ríos están bajos y he de escoger la mejor de las opciones para evitar perder energía y tiempo en arrastrar la canoa, o devolverme para encontrar el paso más adecuado.

Al parecer la paciencia y la persistencia serán elementos que deberé potenciar al máximo.

Al regresar, seguramente, re evaluaré todo, no solo este viaje sino los planes a futuro y entonces, me tomaré el tiempo para decantar esta experiencia y buscar la manera de transmitirla de la manera más diáfana posible.

It is always good to hear. Listening allow you to learn and is basically a requirement  that open to knowledge

This trip is full of surprises. First,it has been reported that this drought is the stronger since 1969 so I will have the opportunity to live  this experience directly (¿how are affected all the ecosystem? How the wildlife reacts to such long and strong event?)

On the other hand, maybe the course will be complex: the rivers are too low and I have to choose the best option as posible in order to avoid wasting of energy and time draging the canoe or return to find the best way to pass.

Apparently is the patience and persistence the elements that will be present and that I will must to maximize.

Returning I will be evaluating everything, not only about the trip also about the future plan and I will taking the time to decant this experience and find the ways to transmit it in the clearest way as posible.
